Post Production Internship – Paid, Part-time
Backflip is a creative digital company located in Madison, WI. We specialize in video production and graphic/web design services. We are seeking a savvy intern to join our team for a dynamic, year long (and beyond?) opportunity assisting the lead editor in post production. Work is performed with supervision and guidance from both the lead editor and creative directors at Backflip.
Requirements
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in film/video editing
- Must be a college student enrolled in a film / TV type program or equivalent experience
- Must have completed Class 465 Editing & Post-Production: Video & Film or equivalent experience
- Must be able to work at least one day per week at Backflip- ~9am-5pm
- Previous experience with non-linear digital editing (familiarity using Davinci Resolve Suite is preferred but not required)
- Attention to detail and a willingness to work in a team environment
- Creativity, problem-solving, and strong technical and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to accept feedback and follow directions
- Flexibility, interest and availability to contribute in non-editing areas at Backflip such as on video production shoots, digital marketing and entry level duties as assigned.
Internship / Part time position description
- Assisting the lead editor with editing projects at Backflip from beginning to end
- Student will receive assistance from lead editor in each phase of post production
- Creating and organizing raw files that contain b-roll and interviews
- Syncing of audio and video files
- Creating, setting up and rendering proxies
- Employee may get to take a first pass at an assembly and rough cut for smaller projects
- May work on creative projects with the production team (ie. 48 hour film contests, short films, Backflip’s annual Christmas video etc)
- Employee may have opportunities to work on post production visual effects such as removing an item or blemish from a shot
- Employee may learn how to use the basics of Photoshop
- Employee may have the opportunity to create a 60-90 second video from Backflip’s library of footage from start to finish, including lower thirds, graphics, music and color correction
- Employee may learn how to use Basecamp Project Management and other tools
- Employee may sit in on client reviews with lead editor
- Available for video production activities including: in studio shoots, location shoots, travel shoots
Learning Objectives
- Student will have learned the basics of Davinci Resolve
- Student will have a better understanding of the post production process from beginning to end
- Upon completion of a satisfactory internship, employee will receive a positive recommendation and/or reference from Backflip (or perhaps a full time job!)
